Yoga makes me better

I’ve started blogs before and I could never maintain them. But, I realized I was trying to write about stuff that was making it more like work and less fun. And, for me yoga is fun. I’ve been doing Baptiste yoga religiously now for more than a year. I love it! It’s a vinyasa flow and it is intense. I remember the first time I tried it, I had no idea how the students kept up with the flow. After that first class I wasn’t sure I would go back, but something told me I should.

I started going to class about once a week. Sometimes I’d leave my house feeling like there was no way I was going to make it through the entire class. At the end of the class I felt so calm and happy and amazed that I had made it through the class. I kept going, but really wasn’t committing a lot of time, partly because I was working and it was hard to fit it in during the week.

Then, I was laid off from my job and I had no reason, other than money, to keep me from going to class. I realized yoga was the one thing in my life that would help me through the tough times to come. Thank god I believed that yoga could help me because the last year has been incredibly difficult. But, when times have been tough, when I could have wallowed in my sorrow I hit my mat.

I am reminded that every day is new and fresh with hope. That I can make it through the difficult times if I believe that something better will come of it. Yoga is more than a fitness program for me, it has become a way of life. It works my body and my mind and helps me know myself better. And, in the process I have become more fit and aware that fueling the body with healthy food will help every aspect of my life.

I cannot put a price on my yoga practice. I have made incredible friends with a positive outlook, I have improved my mental state and I am fitter today than I probably have ever been. My life has been forever changed and yoga is now a permanent part of my life!

  1. You really are changed since the first time you walked in. I was even looking atsome old pics an you used to set your mat up in the back. That’s weird for me to imagine now!

    • Yeah, I sort of moved my way up to the front of the room. Well, the back is really the front, right? When I started to feel more comfortable, I guess I didn’t want to hide anymore. Plus, I like not having all the distractions in front of me. Sometimes I move to try and mix it up and not get too used to my “spot.” 🙂
